I agree with you.
India must develop on more solid industries such as mechanical and electronic. India already has good chemical industry.
Service industries(BPO,KPO,IT,Ad/media) are easy to move to other locations/contries and are not as tangable, east europian countries, china, bangladesh, sri lanka, pakistan, nepal, phipins, thiland are obvious cheaper options or compititors for India's matured service indusstry. Service industries do not create hard dependencies on investors/cosumers. Also do not provide job oppertunies for all classes of society, which is very important in overall developemnt of any country.
India does not have strong say in WTO.
Also the country is still very dependent on other contries for defence supplies.
Our politicians will never let India become power supply independent, lot of substandard equipments will be continued to be used in grid by electricity boards of all states. Power industry should be privatised, because private companies work for profits and will not waste energy and our tax money will also have intentions to curb power theft.
I respect Lalu/or his stragic managers who have set up an example of running public service(Railways) in profit. I think all other public sector leaders should learn from currunt Lalu not past Lalu who has ruined Bihar.
The list of problems keeps on going.......

This is a fairly stupid thing to say: this wasnt the "heinous crime" in human history. There have been worse - among those committes also by the current settlers of the North American continent. That in no way means that violence is forgivable or a good answer to any human problem -which is what the Hindutva folsk need to learn as well.

instead of abiding by the law we often look for ways to get around it. that is one of the biggest problems with indian citizens.
we have got to learn to accept, respect and follow law and order.
wat swaroop did was excellent. the people who are supposed to implement the law cannot go around breaking it.
they have to be held accountable. great work!

Well all said and done...is the US of A waiting for another Kandahar to happen. Every person, this side of the planet knows that one Ripan Katyal lost his life because some fanatics wanted their comrade to be released from an Indian prison. Is something like this far from what can happen in the US?

Philadelphia connection...lol ! :)

Funnily enough, yesterday I happened to be in downtown Philly. And what do I find going on there ? An Annual Gay and Lesbian Mela of sorts. They had occupied 4 blocks atleast. Really colorful and festive. The men had great dress sense. The women were mostly punk. And everyone looked very happy with themselves so I guess all is right with the world.

Well think of it this way. How do you punish someone ? By denying them what they want. The perpetrator in this case is a wanna-be suicide bomber who *wants* to be martyred. It doesn't make too much sense to kill a man who wants to die, does it? That way, you would not only be playing into his hands but also providing the extremists a hero to worship. The trick is to keep the man alive and incarcerated. To take away not only his freedom to die but also his dignity and pride by treating him like a petty criminal.

It does not mean that we are in any way underplaying the heinousness of the crimes committed. But we are simply being objective and logical in imparting justice.

What is the name of the restaurant?
I'm gay and coming to Bangalore on business for the first couple of weeks in May and I'm kinda nervous about it.
Are there many gay people in Banglore? How do they meet each other (besides the sad online ads for clandestined sex)?
Isn't there a hotel pub or something where gay people tend to gather? Help!

I'll tell you why. Cobrapost is run by Anirudh Bahal who was responsible for Tehelka's arms scandal expose. And he will never forgive the NDA govt. esp BJP after what they did to him and Tehelka.
Check out any Tehelka issue (the weekly newspaper) - its totally anti-BJP. They may not be very anti-Sangh, but definitely anti-BJP. Thats the best reason I could think of.

@keerti...the whole screw up about this city is that the people who run it dont care a damn about where it is going or at what pace it is dying!its true that theres a massive flow of people flowing in every day in search of jobs and what not.this is supposed to be a symbiotic deal between the bangaloreans and the non-bangaloereans.dont u think the fact that there are other people from various cultures in this city has actually cosmopolitanised this place?bangalore was fine with all this for so long...all of a sudden, protests and patriotism galore?!!
petrol prices increase every three months and the reason given is,infrastructure needs to be bucked up...tell me, where is the infrastructure in bangalore?or did they mean their personal infrastructure?
this is not about bangaloreans vs non-bangaloreans..this is about frustration due to the fact that some people are born with common sense...and it is not targetted toward only bangalore..if we were at some other city and this kind of a situation previled there too..these would be the same arguements.
RIP!!

@keerti…the whole screw up about this city is that the people who run it dont care a damn about where it is going or at what pace it is dying!its true that theres a massive flow of people flowing in every day in search of jobs and what not.this is supposed to be a symbiotic deal between the bangaloreans and the non-bangaloereans.dont u think the fact that there are other people from various cultures in this city has actually cosmopolitanised this place?bangalore was fine with all this for so long…all of a sudden, protests and patriotism galore?!!
petrol prices increase every three months and the reason given is,infrastructure needs to be bucked up…tell me, where is the infrastructure in bangalore?or did they mean their personal infrastructure?
this is not about bangaloreans vs non-bangaloreans..this is about frustration due to the fact that some people are born with common sense…and it is not targetted toward only bangalore..if we were at some other city and this kind of a situation previled there too..these would be the same arguements.
RIP!!

This is a hyed up article.. please tell me that you didnt take 'karunada sene' seriously.. this is the first time i heard of this nonsensical organization.. a few people seem wronged when their dreamworld was no longer around them when they were asleep- hence they form an organization which is but invisible forits once-in-a-bluemoon vandalizing activities, but to hype an unheard organization's demands to an extent to dengigrate an entire city as if it had nothing to offer is just not done!

regarding driving up prices of property..there are 2 things.. with a massive influx of people.. and an impending influx of an equivalent number, people require the basics of roti kapda and makaan.. the crowd coming in are the ones willing to earn and pay that much..so ur prices are being driven up, if you expected paradise when u landed and after the it boom i am afraid no place would give u that..

we bangaloreans ourselves are confused abt how these massive changes are happening to our city, and we are saying that these changes were inevitable but for someone to stand up and scream back at the city is bad!

roads? the city is as corrupt as any other and it hasnt changed much though it is expected.the tirade against summing all these up and saying its not a nice place to live is stupid.

I am in my sane mind and hell i wont give this city up

whattt?? this is ridiculous. if you want a developed and advanced city, be prepared for the "side-effects". third world mentality in a first world city (well almost). this is what is keeping india behind. disgraceful!

Are you on Orkut? In case you do, join the Elxsi community there. You'll find your answers in the forums.
